Athletics Get Zip in 6-0 Loss to Poholsky
Friday, September 10th , 1954
The Philadelphia Athletics ran into a buzzsaw at Briggs Stadium, as Detroit Tigers starter Tom Poholsky cut them down to size, 6-0, tossing a 5-hit shutout.
"That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," Tigers manager told reporters after the game. "Tom knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."
In the complete game win, the Detroit hurler doled out 1 walk and registered 4 strikeouts.
This year, Poholsky has fashioned a 13-8 mark, 4.59 ERA and pitched 207.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .275 against him and he has logged 98 strikeouts.
