The 37-year-old starter threw 246.2 innings, notched 114 strikeouts and put up a 18-6 record to claim the coveted award.

He received 10 first place votes out of a possible 16. Early Wynn of the Milwaukee Braves finished second in voting with 6 first place votes, while Carl Erskine of the Brooklyn Dodgers finished third.
