What does it take to win the Most Valuable Pitcher Award?

Just ask Howie Pollet of the Boston Red Sox -- the latest AL Most Valuable Pitcher Award winner.

"My dad always told me to dream big and dream always," he said. "It's not like I shoot for the Most Valuable Pitcher Award," he said. "I have big aspirations for what I want to do in this game and what I want to achieve in a long career."

The Red Sox pitching ace made some of his dreams come true this year, winning 15 games and losing only 9. In 31 starts, Pollet registered a 2.16 ERA and limited other clubs to a .239 batting average. He fanned 85 in 242 innings and issued 82 walks.

He received 11 first place votes out of a possible 16. Duane Pillette of the New York Yankees finished second in voting with 5 first place votes, while Jack Harshman of the New York Yankees finished third.
